AboutMe

My name is Nigel Jerome Benson, a proud graduate of THE Tennessee State University and I am a sports junkie from Grand Rapids, Mich. I’m your go-to guy for passionate, knowledgeable and relevant coverage of sports industry news.

Growing up, I became very interactive in sports. As I became a young adult, I came to the realization that sports would not be a way of life for me. My participation in sports ended, but my passion to be involved never waned. In my sophomore year of college, I chose to change my major and pursue a degree in mass communications with a concentration in journalism.

At Tennessee State, I wrote for the campus newspaper "The Meter" and the university’s "Blueprint Magazine." I appeared on TSU's only sports show at the time, TSU Overtime on TSPN. Outside of school, I spent a summer interning in the sports news department at The Tennessean, which is part of the USA Today Network-Tennessee, which is also the state’s biggest news organization. I helped to keep readers informed about Vanderbilt athletics and latest news from TSU, the Nashville Sounds, and of course Tennessee Titans football.

After graduation, it wasn't long before I was able to invest my time, knowledge, and talents of being a young multimedia journalist, as I became a co-host for "The Warm Up", a local sports radio show based in  Grand Rapids on 97.3 The Beat.
